Popular radio personality Isis M Jones joins V949 FM team

(Birmingham, AL) – Buckle your seatbelts because WATV (V949FM) is aiming for the top and rising fast. The station has hired veteran broadcaster Isis M Jones who has broad experience in radio, television, and film.

“We are honored to have Isis on the team. This has been an awesome journey. Thank you so much Birmingham for supporting us as we continue to grow,” said Chris Coleman, WATV Programming Director.

There have been several power moves for V949FM in two short years- from major broadcasting awards to television collaborations to hiring top-notch talent. Lady Woo began the mid-day shift and brought her thought provoking show "Vital" with her in January 2020.

WATV (V949) FM walked away with two major wins at the Alabama Broadcasters Association's 15th annual ABBY awards. The March 2021 event recognized Alabama’s best in broadcasting. In the category of Large Market Talk Show, WATV’s “The Think Tank with Chris Coleman” won. WATV also won in the category of Large Market Podcast, for “The Home Team Unplugged Podcast”.

During Summer 2021, the station partnered with WVTM NBC-13 for a televised Birmingham Mayoral debate. Lady Woo and Chris Coleman served on the panel and asked viewer questions. The two stations plan to work together to provide more community-based programming.

Popular radio personality Isis Jones joined the team in September 2021.

“The time is right. This is a great opportunity. My heart belongs to Alabama and I am so excited to be back in the Magic City,” said Jones.

She first hit the airwaves at Lincoln University while she was still in high school. She has taught college courses on radio production and radio history at Miles College. She even has a scholarship named in her honor at Harris Stowe State University in St. Louis, Missouri.

“I love connecting with people and I do so through music, community and my business”, Jones added.

Jones is also the owner of Isis M Jones LLC. Her voice over company serves as a platform for those seeking to convey messaging to the African American community.

“I’m so proud to be a part of such a talented team that truly cares about our community, addressing the tough issues, and making us smile along the way,” said prominent attorney G. Courtney French, of Courtney French Broadcasting LLC which owns WATV.
